🙌This Week’s Inspiration

Kuala Lumpur is the largest city in Malaysia. It’s a melting pot of different cultures: Malay, Chinese, Indian and more.

It’s easy to fly into Kuala Lumpur from other airports, especially in Asia. There are many different modes of public transportation: buses, trains, and the monorail
making it easy to travel around the city.

Malaysia has a tropical climate with high humidity year-round since it’s near the equator.đŸ„”

A Rainforest in the Middle of the City

The KL Forest Eco Park is an actual rainforest in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. There is a canopy walk there when you can walk amongst the trees where you might catch glimpses of wildlife. It’s similar to being in the heart of Central Park in New York City, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, except it’s a rainforest.

Petronas Towers

The Petronas Towers are currently the world’s largest twin towers. They are worth the look. Here are some facts:

  • 451.9M (1,483 ft) high

  • 88 floors (4 are underground)

  • 38 elevators in each tower!

Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are a must-see when in Kuala Lumpur. There are three main caves here that have temples and Hindu shrines. A large gold statue of a Hindu god stands at the entrance to the caves, and from there it’s 272 colorful steps up to the inside of the caves.

We’re not Hindu but appreciated what we learned on our visit. You might witness Hindus climbing up the 272 steps on their knees as a form of worship. We walked up the stairs behind a man who was climbing up on his knees. He was clearly in discomfort and was accompanied by loved ones encouraging him. The dedication was admirable.

Monkeys

You will definitely see monkeys on your way up to the caves.

đŸŽ¶ “Hey, hey we’re the Monkees
people say we monkey around
” No, not quite like the band, the Monkees.

These monkeys are routinely fed by humans and are everywhere in the caves. It’s important to keep moving around once you’re in the caves and don’t carry any loose bags. The monkeys will grab any loose bags they see in the hopes of finding food. If they take your bag, you won’t get it back!

*How to Get to the Batu Caves:

The easiest way to get to the Batu Caves is by taking the KTM Komuter train from KL Sentral Station in Kuala Lumpur. This line will take you directly to the Batu Caves station.

Where to Stay:

This is the Airbnb we stayed at in Kuala Lumpur. Guests who stay here have access to an infinity pool that has incredilble views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

What to Pack:

Although it’s hot in Kuala Lumpur, people here dress conservatively. Don’t make the mistake Trisha made when we first arrived. She couldn’t figure out why everyone was staring at her when we first arrived and were at a restaurant for dinner
only to realize at the end of dinner she was the ONLY person in shorts and a tank top! Keep your shoulders covered and wear shorts, capris, or skirts that go to at least your knees.

👋 Have an Inspiring Week

Here are a few things to help you when in Kuala Lumpur.

  • This blog has excellent information about visiting the Batu Caves.

  • Here is the link for purchasing tickets to visit the observation deck in the Petronas Towers
on the 86th floor!

  • These women’s joggers are great for dressing conservatively and are lightweight
perfect for those warm temperatures.

  • Here are some great dry-fit women’s tops that are conservative too
Trisha wishes she had these when we were in KL.

See you next week,

Trisha & Bob
